I just rescued a largemouth bass! But did I do the right thing? When I arrived at my fishing spot this morning, I discovered a bass tied up on a string. The string was tied to a ratchet strap on one end and the fish's mouth on the other. I suspect it was there for a while, and there was no one around. So I let it go. I hope I did the right thing. After that I got to fishing with a jerkbait, and gulp minnows. I couldn't catch anymore bass but I did catch some bluegill. Today I'm fishing with three different minnow rigs on a light spinning rig. All of these are fished on 6 lb test in case I get a decent sized bass. I start out fishing with a Gulp minnow on a Realistic Rig. Then I switch out the gulp for a larger artificial plastic minnow. The last thing I try is a hi-low with two different sized artificial minnows. Despite all of my effort to adapt, I only manage a few nice bluegill today. Curious about how to catch fish at a public park? Today we are doing some fall fishing for bass and bluegill from the bank of a public park. I am starting out with a ned rig, fished on a baitcaster. I catch my first fish just minutes after arriving. The bass managed to bend my Zman jig head so I have to replace it. After a while without any more action, I decide to downsize to a small artificial minnow, a one inch gulp minnow. With this I am able to catch a few bluegill before I go. Catching bass and bluegill in fall is fun, but can be a challenge. Today I am fishing in a tropical storm here in Tennessee. I'm fishing the high water for bass and panfish. I start out fishing in the morning rain using a lipless crankbait and a ned rig, but I don't get any bites. I pick it back up a few hours later while there is a break in the rain. This is when I start catching fish! I catch a king sized shellcracker on a Ned Rig! I also catch a nice sized bass on a hail Mary attempt with the Strike King Red Eyed Shad. Early Fall Fishing for Bass and Bluegill can be challenging when its still HOT outside, especially when fishing from shore. This is my third attempt at fishing in two days, and I had to downsize to to make it happen. I am fishing a micro jig head (BG-1) with a Gulp Minnow, and I briefly try a small swimbait. I catch a variety of bluegill and small largemouth bass. None of them are worthy of the i_fish wall of fame, but I gave it a try. We all know the fishing walk of shame. I love when I can redeem myself and catch a bass! Today I try a new fishing spot. I try fishing a plastic worm two different way. I try a wacky rig, and a Texas rig. But unfortunately I end up doing the walk of shame. I decide to try my luck a few hours later at a different location, and I totally redeem myself! I catch a nice largemouth bass on a fluke! I didn't want to make another lure unboxing video so I went fishing instead. The bass fishing has been so bad around here. I usually end up buying more lures this time of year because its so slow. Today I decided to fish with a weightless fluke on my baitcaster to try and break the losing streak. I am glad I did! I caught my first largemouth bass in days! The weather is starting to cool off, but the fish are not aggressively biting yet. I got a few other swirls and bites, but only one bass actually grabbed the lure. If you can't catch any fish, you may want to try fishing next to a dock! If you are a beginner, this is a great place to find fish. Or if you are out with your kids and you want them to catch something, this is the place to try. The corner of the dock is a great place to find fish when you can't find them anywhere else. I am using Gulp Minnows and Earthworms, but you could use live bait like worms, or even bread. Realistic Fishing Tip: Instead of walking out to the end of the dock right away, cast alongside it. Walk out a little ways and cast toward the end of the dock.
