Sorry everyone, no fishing for a while. A recent snow storm in Tennessee means no fishing for me. I can't even get out of my neighborhood. About 7 inches of snow fell on us in the last 2 days. And since there are no plows or salt in my area, I cant get down the road. And that means, I can't go fishing. Instead I show the snow on the ground, and we look at some fishing stuff in the studio. I really hope it warms up again so this snow can melt and I can go fishing. Today I am looking at some new fishing lures to try once the winter fishing is over. These lures are from Temu as well as the mail! I was reorganizing some of my tackle for the upcoming spring fishing season. I remembered that I had a few more lures to show off so here we are. I purchased some unique fishing floats, rod holders, and more. I even show off some hand painted crankbaits. Congratulations to todays lucky commenter! Today I am trying a new winter bank fishing spot. Can I catch any fish here? I start out fishing from a rocky bluff. I cast to both sides with my live bait. But I can't get a single bite! So I make my way down a path that is covered in smashed pumpkins. I come to another boat launch and have a bit more confidence in the new fishing spot. And, I manage to catch a few fish there! Bank fishing in the winter can be very difficult. Do fish still bite when it cold? Can you catch fish bank fishing in open water, in Winter? Yes and Yes! Fish are cold, but they still need to eat. I typically resort to live bait like red worms when the fishing is difficult, like it is right now. But the fish are STILL biting! Despite freezing my hands off, I was able to catch a variety of average bluegill in a short amount of time. And, I caught all of the fish on just one worm! I know bank fishing when its cold isn't for everyone. Want to know how to find fish in winter? It starts with moving around, and not fishing the same spot when there are no fish. When you realize there might not be any fish at your spot, you have to be willing to leave. You have a better chance after moving because you can't catch fish that aren't there. I try a Gulp Minnow and a worm at the log, but I don't catch a single fish. After driving to a new spot near a boat launch, I start catching some. You can't be afraid to move. Today we are doing dome beginner saltwater fishing with shrimp, at Dauphin Island. I purchased these shrimp at Ship & Shore here on the island. I am using a very simple rig similar to a Carolina Rig for bass or catfish. I start out catching a few croaker which are a typical catch here. I also catch a Redfish which was a pleasant surprise. I even catch a blue crab on rod and reel! You never know what you might catch in saltwater when fishing with shrimp.
