How To Catch Big Bluegill From The Bank (The Realistic Fishing Way)
If your goal is catching bigger bluegill from shore instead of dozens of tiny fish, this is one of the simplest rigs I’ve found. The setup couldn’t be much easier: a float, a light jig head, and a Gulp Alive Minnow fished on an ultralight spinning combo. It’s inexpensive, easy to cast, and works well whether you’re fishing a neighborhood pond or a public lake.
One thing I like about this rig is that it catches a variety of panfish while still giving you a legitimate chance at quality bluegill. During this trip I land several impressive fish, including bluegill measuring over nine inches. That’s the kind of size that keeps you coming back.
If you’re struggling to find a reliable bluegill setup, this is a great place to start. I walk through exactly how I fish it, where I cast it, and why a slow, natural presentation consistently produces fish when more complicated rigs don’t.

How To Fish For Bass With a NED Rig From The Bank (The Easy Way)
The Ned Rig has become one of my favorite ways to catch bass from the bank because it keeps things simple while consistently getting bites. In this video I show the exact rod, reel, jig head, and soft plastic I’m using before heading out to put the setup to work.
Instead of expensive gear, I’m using an affordable jig head paired with a Z-Man TRD, proving that you don’t need premium equipment to catch quality fish. After a little patience and the right presentation, the bass start biting, including a few solid largemouth with the biggest pushing the two-pound mark.
Whether you’re completely new to Ned rig fishing or just looking for a better bank fishing approach, this video demonstrates how to work the lure around cover, maintain bottom contact, and fish slowly enough to trigger strikes without making the technique complicated.

FIRST TIME Fishing With a BFS! (Learning to Fish a Baitcaster AGAIN)
Trying a BFS (Bait Finesse System) setup for the first time felt like learning to use a baitcaster all over again. Between switching to a left-handed reel and throwing ultralight lures, there was definitely a learning curve. Fortunately, that’s part of what makes this trip fun to watch.
I start with a Charlie Brewer Slider on a tiny 2-gram jig head and spend the day figuring out how this lightweight system behaves. As my confidence grows, so do the catches. Before long I’m landing largemouth bass, bluegill, and even a giant shellcracker while getting comfortable with the new setup.
If you’ve been curious about BFS fishing but aren’t sure whether it’s worth trying, this video gives an honest first impression from someone learning the system in real fishing conditions rather than perfect casting practice.

I SHOULD Have Gone Fishing at The SMALL Lake!
Sometimes the biggest lesson from a fishing trip isn’t about the lure you chose—it’s about where you decided to fish. That’s exactly what happened here. I spent time working my usual lake, expecting the fishing to improve, but the results were disappointing once again.
After two trips, all I had to show for the effort were a few bluegill and a single sunfish. The bass simply weren’t there. It really drove home how much fishing pressure and changing conditions can affect a spot that used to produce consistently.
That’s why I’m starting to spend more time exploring smaller lakes instead of forcing the same locations week after week. If you’ve ever wondered whether it’s time to abandon your favorite fishing hole and try somewhere new, this trip might sound very familiar.

DON’T BE AFRAID To Try Fishing With Topwater Lures (Bass Fishing)
Topwater fishing can seem intimidating if you’ve never had much success with it, but sometimes it completely changes the day. I begin this trip throwing smaller presentations, including a Road Runner and my usual Realistic Rig with a Gulp Minnow. While those catch a few fish, they aren’t producing the quality bass I’m after.
Instead of giving up, I make one important adjustment and tie on a topwater lure. That single decision changes everything. Before long I’m watching a solid two-pound bass explode on the bait just a few feet from shore, followed by another quality fish nearby.
This trip is a good reminder that bigger lures often attract bigger bites. If you’ve been hesitant to throw topwater from the bank, don’t overlook it once the water starts warming up. Sometimes all it takes is the confidence to make a few casts.

Remember the ROAD RUNNER? This Fishing Lure Catches Bass
The Road Runner has been around for decades, but it’s still one of those lures that deserves a spot in a tackle box. This classic underspin combines a small jig with a spinning blade underneath, giving fish a little extra flash and vibration without making the presentation complicated.
The day doesn’t start particularly well. I throw a Baby Brush Hog with very little to show for it before switching tactics. A jig and minnow finally puts a decent bass on the board, but the highlight comes near the end of the trip when the Road Runner saves the day with the biggest bass of the outing.
Classic fishing lures stick around for a reason. While newer baits get most of the attention, proven designs like the Road Runner continue catching bass year after year. If you’ve got one sitting in an old tackle box, it might be time to tie it back on and give it another chance.
