Early Spring Bass Fishing: Yellow Bass aka Stripe, Gulp Minnows, Ned Rigs & Inline Spinner Tests

Spring Fishing for the Golden Bass! STRIPE Fishing from Shore

Today I’m out fishing for what I call the Golden Bass—Yellow Bass, also known as Stripe—casting from the shore this spring. I rigged up a float with a micro jig head and a Gulp Minnow, and it turned into a productive day. I landed a Largemouth Bass, a few Yellow Bass, a Bluegill, and even a Shellcracker. Spring is nearly here, and the fishing is improving fast. If you’re thinking about targeting Yellow Bass, shore fishing is worth a shot right now—you might hook into some Bass or Panfish too.

I kept the setup simple with that float rig—just something easy to throw from the bank. The Gulp Minnow on the jig head brought steady action, pulling in a mix of fish. The water is starting to warm up, and the Yellow Bass are getting active, along with others like that Largemouth Bass. It’s a good sign spring fishing is picking up. What’s your go-to approach for Yellow Bass from the shore this time of year?

Gulp Minnow vs Inline Spinner – Early Spring Bank Fishing From Dock

Today I’m comparing a Gulp Minnow to an Inline Spinner, fishing both from a dock in early spring. The creek channel is warming up, and the fish are moving in again. The Inline Spinner hasn’t worked out—I’m 0-2 with no bites. But the Gulp Minnow delivered, catching several Bluegill and Sunfish. I was hoping for a Crappie or a Bass, maybe a Yellow Bass, but the Panfish kept me busy. Spring is almost here, and I’ll be testing these lures more as the season rolls on.

The dock is a solid spot to fish from, but that Inline Spinner isn’t doing me any favors—another day with nothing. Switching to the Gulp Minnow turned things around; the Bluegill and Sunfish started hitting it pretty quick. I didn’t land the bigger fish I wanted, but it’s still early in the season. The creek is showing signs of life, so I’ll keep working both lures to see what they can do. Which one’s your pick for bank fishing right now—Gulp Minnow or Inline Spinner?

Dock Fishing Results:

Gulp Minnow: Caught Bluegill and Sunfish with ease.

Inline Spinner: No luck yet—still testing it out.

INLINE SPINNER vs NED RIG – Early Spring Bass Fishing Lure Testing

Today I’m testing an Inline Spinner against a Ned Rig for early spring bass fishing, all from the bank. I’m using the Inline Spinner on a light spinning combo and the Ned Rig on a baitcaster. I started with the Spinner, ran into some algae, and didn’t get a single bite. Then I switched to the Ned Rig, walked down the bank, and caught a Largemouth Bass near the boat ramp with a Z-Man TRD. The Spinner’s still in play for me, but the Ned Rig came out on top today with that Bass.

The Inline Spinner didn’t cooperate—algae was an issue, and no fish showed interest. I grabbed the Ned Rig next, moved along the shore, and hooked that Largemouth Bass by the ramp—a decent catch for early spring. The Z-Man TRD keeps it simple and works fine from the bank without costing much. I’ll give the Spinner another chance soon; the season’s just starting. What’s your favorite lure for Bass from the shore—Inline Spinner or Ned Rig?

Bank Fishing Breakdown:

Inline Spinner: Algae slowed it down, no bites.

Ned Rig: Landed a Largemouth Bass—solid choice.
