A Texas rig and a cheap creature bait can make a pretty simple bass-fishing setup. On this trip I was using a Creme creature bait that cost about $1.25.
I was fishing a large local lake from the bank and working the creature bait on a Texas rig. The Texas rig gives a soft plastic lure a weedless presentation that can be fished around the kind of cover where bass like to hold.
That’s one reason I keep coming back to this setup. You don’t need an expensive lure to try it, and a creature bait gives you another soft-plastic option when bass fishing from the bank.
The Creme creature bait was catching enough fish to make the $1.25 price interesting. For budget bass fishing, a Texas-rigged creature bait is one of the inexpensive setups worth having available.

Upgrade a BEETLE SPIN To Catch More Fish! (Beetle Spin Bass Fishing)
A Beetle Spin already has a simple combination of a small lure and spinner, but I wanted to try changing the bait attached to it.
Instead of using the usual grub body, I replaced it with a Beetle Shad. That turns the familiar Beetle Spin into more of a small swimbait presentation while keeping the spinner.
The change worked well on this trip. I caught three largemouth bass and even caught a bluegill on the upgraded Beetle Spin.
Changing the body gives an old Beetle Spin another option when you’re trying to get fish interested. The small swimbait profile also gives it a more natural minnow-like appearance than the original grub.

Surprising Monster Catch On a TEXAS RIG! (What Did I Catch?)
I went bass fishing with a Texas-rigged crawfish around docks, boat ramps and along the bank. About 15 minutes into the trip, something much bigger than the bass I was expecting picked up the lure.
The fish immediately started ripping line, and I could tell I needed to let it run because it was simply too big to muscle straight to the bank.
Eventually I got the fish close enough to remove the hook and found out it measured 27 inches long.
I was out there specifically trying to catch bass, so catching a 27-inch fish instead was quite a surprise. It was another good example of why a Texas-rigged soft plastic can produce unexpected catches when you’re fishing around different types of shoreline cover.

Sometimes the bass fishing is so bad that catching anything becomes the goal.
That’s where I was on this trip. The bass had been difficult to catch for weeks, and even the bluegill weren’t cooperating. I started with a Texas-rigged crawfish and then made some changes to the way I was fishing it to try to get that first bite.
Once I finally caught one fish, I was able to catch a couple more, including a bass.
When bank fishing gets difficult, I don’t always think the answer is buying a different lure. Sometimes changing the presentation you’re already using can make the difference between going home without a fish and getting a few bites.
This trip was about making adjustments and sticking with it until something finally worked.

Catching Fish When It’s SUPER HOT? Realistic Fishing Tried For You!
It was 94 degrees when I went fishing at the local lake, and even the ducks were hiding in the bushes.
I expected the extreme heat to make catching anything difficult, so I kept the setup small. I used a Gulp Alive Minnow on a tiny jig and fished from the bank.
To my surprise, the fish were still willing to bite.
I caught a bunch of bluegill along with a green sunfish. There wasn’t anything complicated about the setup. A small jig and Gulp Alive Minnow gave me a way to catch panfish even when the temperature was pushing 100 degrees.
Hot weather doesn’t necessarily mean you have to give up on fishing. Sometimes downsizing your lure and looking for whatever fish are willing to bite is enough to make a very hot day productive.
