Can the fishing at Old Hickory Lake actually get any worse? I have been fishing around here for 10 years, almost EVERY DAY, while I made this show. I have to say, the fishing at Old Hickory Lake is the worst its ever been. I’ve gone to multiple parks on this lake lately, and the fishing is just terrible. Today I manage to catch 3 bluegill in about 3 hours… and I lost a skipjack as well. But that’s it! All of these fishing spots used to produce bass, catfish, and panfish. Today I’m going back to the basics of bluegill fishing. I’m using an artificial wax worm called a Maxie Waxie from Strike King (not sponsored). The bass fishing has been so discouraging lately so I am going back to basics. I start out fishing with a small swimbait, but after only catch one fish (a bluegill), I decide to downsize to the wax worm. This is when I start getting more bites and actually catch some nice sized fish. Many of today’s bluegill are in the 8 inch range. Sometimes Realistic Fishing just isn’t fun and I feel like quitting. But is the end near? Today I went out and fished at multiple spots here in middle Tennessee and they were all TERRIBLE! I don’t know if it’s the weather, or mismanagement, or just overfished, but I couldn’t catch more than one fish all day! The returns for working on the channel are fading away, and if it isn’t even fun, why continue? I am not sure how much longer the show will go on. Reality isn’t popular.
