Late Winter Bass Fishing, Huge Lure Discounts & A Visit From The Game Warden

Is It TOO EARLY For BASS FISHING? (Late Winter Fishing From Shore)

Is late winter fishing worth it, or is it still too early for bass? Today, I’m testing the waters from shore to find out.

With the crazy weather lately—warm one day, freezing the next, then rain, then cold again—it’s been tough to predict what the fish are doing. Fortunately, the bluegill bite is still on, and I manage to catch five on a simple float rig. But when it comes to largemouth bass, it’s a different story.

I take a chance and start throwing a crankbait, hoping to get a bite. Nothing. The bass just aren’t active yet, at least not along the bank. It’s still too early for them to move up, and until the water warms up consistently, they’ll likely stay deeper.

For now, I’ll take the bluegill and keep waiting for that spring bass bite to kick in.

NOW Is The Time To BUY FISHING LURES! (How To Save Money On Fishing)

If you want to save money on fishing, now is the time to buy fishing lures—and I’ll show you why.

Every year, stores start clearing out old inventory to make room for new fishing gear. This means you can find huge discounts if you know where to look. I hit up Meijer and found some insane deals on PowerBait MaxScent—over 66% off! That’s like getting three packs for the price of one.

But that wasn’t all. I also picked up crankbaits, floats, beads, and jigs, all for less than what the PowerBait would have cost at full price.

Timing is everything when it comes to saving money on fishing gear. If you’re looking to stock up on lures for the season, now is one of the best times to do it.

Catching Fish in Front of The Game Warden (Fishing License Checked)

There’s nothing like catching fish while a game warden watches—especially right after getting your fishing license checked!

Today, I’m out bank fishing at Percy Priest Lake with i_fish, working on bluegill and sunfish when a game warden pulls up in his boat. He checks my license, which I obviously have, so no issues there.

The officers were polite, and i_fish even brought up an important topic—all the litter on the banks. Trash is everywhere, and it’s a real problem for local fisheries.

As for the fishing, we put up solid numbers on bluegill, and i_fish even caught a crappie on a jig and soft plastic. Just another average day of fishing in Middle Tennessee—except this time, we had an unexpected audience.

Pro tip: Always have your fishing license with you. You never know when a game warden will show up!
