Spring Bass Fishing at Caddo Lake, Texas: Tiny Boats, Swimbaits, Flukes & First Chain Pickerel

Bass Fishing From a Tiny Boat! Can I Catch Any Bass?

I’m out bass fishing on Caddo Lake in Texas, working from a small boat and wondering if I’ll hook any Bass. It’s my last day here, and let me tell you, a tiny boat’s no picnic—gear’s everywhere, I’m bumping into stuff, and it’s rocking like crazy. Still, I made it work with a plastic worm, pulling in two Largemouth Bass and a surprise Chain Pickerel. Not the smoothest setup, but catching fish made it worth it. Big thanks to the Caddo Lake Adventure Club and folks like Matt, James, Joe, Robert, and David for having me out.
Fishing from that little boat was a challenge, but tossing a plastic worm kept things simple and effective. The Largemouth Bass hit steady, and that Chain Pickerel was a cool bonus—didn’t see it coming. Caddo Lake’s a unique spot, and even with the cramped quarters, it was a solid trip. Makes me appreciate bank fishing’s simplicity sometimes! Anyone else fished from a tiny boat lately—what’s your trick for keeping it together?

My FIRST TIME Catching This Fish! Realistic Bass Fishing Trip (Texas)

I’m on a bass fishing trip in Texas with Matt, a blues musician, and today I caught something new! First day out, I landed two Largemouth Bass, and we’re back at it now. Started with a Swimbait and hooked another Largemouth Bass right away. Next day, rain’s pouring, but we hit the water anyway—only got one Bass that time. Then it happened: my first Chain Pickerel! Had a line snap a few casts earlier, which threw me off, but catching that fish cleared it up. Caddo Lake’s full of surprises.
The Swimbait was money for that first Bass, even with tricky conditions. Rain made the second day tougher—wet gear, slower bite—but sticking it out paid off with that Chain Pickerel. Never caught one before, and it was a real moment, especially after the line break had me scratching my head. Fishing with Matt and the crew’s been a blast. What’s the wildest new fish you’ve pulled in on a trip?

Trip Highlights:

Swimbait: Nailed a Largemouth Bass early.

Chain Pickerel: First ever—worth the rain!

This NEVER Happens To Me! Bass Fishing at Caddo Lake in TEXAS!

Something rare’s going on—I got invited to bass fish Caddo Lake in Texas with Matt from Ghost Town Blues Band and a great group of guys. Usually, I’m hitting the same old spots, but this is different. Kicked things off fishing from a dock for the intro, then hopped in a boat. First day, I caught two Largemouth Bass using a weightless Fluke. Matt pulled in a beauty—4.5-pound Bass on a Spinnerbait. Spring fishing at Caddo Lake’s not an everyday thing for me, and I’m soaking it up.
Switching from dock to boat opened up new water, and that weightless Fluke worked like a charm for those Largemouth Bass. Seeing Matt’s 4.5-pounder on the Spinnerbait was a highlight—fish like that make you glad you showed up. Caddo Lake’s got a vibe you don’t get just anywhere, and fishing with this crew’s been a treat. Ever get a chance to fish somewhere totally new? How’d it go for you?

Tips for Spring Bass Fishing

  1. Pack Light for Small Boats: Tiny boats get cramped fast—bring only what you need to keep casting smooth.
  2. Try Versatile Lures: Swimbaits, Flukes, and plastic worms cover a lot of water and tempt Bass in spring conditions.
  3. Adjust to Weather: Rain’s common in spring—gear up with waterproofs and stick to sheltered spots if you can.
  4. Explore New Waters: Places like Caddo Lake mix docks and open water—test both to find where Bass are hiding.
  5. Respect Other Anglers: Whether you’re on a boat or bank, give folks space. Boats can move to spots bank anglers can’t reach, so if you’re boating, ease off crowded areas. Bank fishermen, share docks when boats need to pull in—keeps the day friendly for everyone.
